Alert Manager will not start - Fixes

Created by Martin Parkinson, Modified on Thu, 21 Sep, 2023 at 7:24 PM by Graeme Orchard

Usually when people login to their Influence database, the ALERT MANAGER will start-up automatically. If the alert manager will not start, or this has stopped happening there are a couple of easy things to check that may fix the issue.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Option 1: The KClient needs to be Re-Installed

In order to allow the system to spawn multiple windows (and run the Alert Manager or other processes such as User Profiles, etc.) the KClient software used to connect to Influence must have been installed as an 'Administrator' user. If this is not the case, then the software will need to be re-installed, as below:

1. Go to www.influence-it.co.uk/downloads

2. Select thK7Connector.exe software and download this

3. Go to the downloaded file and double-click to RUN the software. Sometimes Windows may display a screen about protecting your PC. If it does choose 'More Info' and then select 'Run Anyway'

4. Follow the installation prompts. When You see the screen asking to install for 'Everyone' or 'Just me' you must choose Everyone

5. If you cannot choose 'Everyone' (it is greyed out) then you will need to try installing the software as an 'Administrator'.
Find the downloaded file, right-click and choose 'Run as Administrator' - then proceed with the install as above, following the prompts and choosing Next > Next, all the way to the end.

Having Re-installed the KClient software, try logging in again, and see if the Alert manager starts again.

If not, try option 2 below.

Option 2: The Windows 'Credentials Manager' needs to be re-set

Sometimes MS Windows ends up corrupting the entries in the Credentials manager. In that case it will need to be deleted and will then be (correctly) re-created when you login to the Influence database the next time

1) In MS Windows (10) go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Credentials Manager.

2) Find the entry for KCML and Remove (Delete) the entry.

3) Next, go to your Influence icon on your desktop, and double-click to login.
When prompted for the server password enter the password and proceed.

4) Having connected to the database, the system will attempt to start the Alert Manager - and you will be prompted one final time for the Server Password - so re-enter it.

After that, the Alert Manager should start, and should continue to start each time you login to the database.
